Director - Maurus vom Scheidt

Maurus vom Scheidt

Born in Munich, Maurus began his career as a photographer’s apprentice and DJ, and worked in almost every department on feature film and commercial sets before he started studying at Munich Film School, where he set off to write and direct festival awarded short films.

On an otherwise boring weekend, Maurus directed his first four spec commercials which got him shortlisted at the Cannes Young Director’s Award. This launched his career as a commercial director working on campaigns for global brands like Balenciaga, Coca Cola, Ikea, McDonald’s, Skoda and Vodafone, gathering numerous international awards (Cannes Lions and New York festival shortlist, ADC Germany, Epica, Cresta, Moebius, Die Klappe, Berlin Fashion Film Festival and more). Eventually, he also graduated film school.

His cinematic storytelling approach and his ability to elicit captivating acting performances create visually striking and emotionally engaging work.

Parallel to his commercial adventures, Maurus also works in long format, directing the feature "Wie Licht schmeckt", an adaptation of Friedrich Ani's coming of age novel, and prime-time buddy comedy "Einer für alle, alles im Eimer" for German TV station ZDF.

Maurus lives in Munich with his family.

Director - Aadil Dhalech

Exclusively signed

Aadil
Dhalech

This Half Thai, half South African Indian, Cape Town-based Director is quite the mixed bag. Aadil spent his childhood bouncing between Thailand, India and a troubled South Africa in the late 80s. He found escape in movies and comedy, and dreamed of one day being able to make films that people could escape to.

Unfortunately, it took him quite a while to get on that path. When he left school, he studied medical sciences at university like a good Asian kid but broke his parents’ hearts when he dropped on account of too much drinking and too little studying. Although, he did go on to get a degree in Psychology, only to break his parents’ hearts again, and enrol to do a post-grad in Copywriting and Advertising at the AAA School of Advertising in Johannesburg.

Aadil then spent 10 years working as a creative in top tier agencies like JWT, Y&R, and BBDO, where he racked up a number of local and international awards.

In 2016, just when he’d become a father and had mounting financial responsibilities, Aadil decided to leave his cushy, financially stable career to finally pursue his lifelong dream of directing. Thankfully, it worked out and he’s produced some amazing work, for some pretty amazing brands and musicians, a few shorts, and has won a couple of awards for a couple of them along the way.

His parents’ hearts are still broken.

When you do something with love, they say it doesn’t feel like work. This, of course, is a cheeky lie. You know, we know, everybody knows. When you do something with love, you put all your energy and passion into it, you’re focused from the moon and back, and you won’t stop until it is absolutely the best it can be. This is erste liebe, a film production company, or rather, a family of driven people working from offices in Hamburg and Berlin. We have a broad range of expertise from swaggy music videos to big time tv commercials, heart-wrenching documentaries and a 400 m² Studio for all your content-production dreams and talk-of-town events.

Already in love with us? That’s ok, don’t blush.
Because there is no love like erste liebe.

At our core, we are storytellers giving a voice to ideas that need to be heard. We are committed to the craft of filmmaking as a driver of culture and change. We do so by connecting the dots between our network of filmmakers, producers, agencies, artists, and like-minded creatives. Our studio is designed to be a collaborative hub for exceptional work and ideas.

Take the tour and, who knows, you might just fall in love at first sight.

Content is everything. And everything is content. Before getting too buzzwordy, we must acknowledge that the media landscape has changed considerably. The same can be said for creative and production processes. Nevertheless, what remains unaltered since erste liebe first opened its doors is our commitment to discovering and supporting young and emerging filmmakers. At erste liebe studios, we provide them with a space to develop and the freedom to grow.

Initially, our studio was built for filmmakers. Today, it is open to anyone who has an exciting story to tell. If this concept speaks to you, we would be delighted to hear your ideas. Together we can find a way to make them come to life.

Director - Julien & Quentin

Julien
& Quentin

French director duo Julien & Quentin got to know each other during their studies in Paris, where they are still based. Both studied graphic design and are happy to integrate this skill into their moving images.
Their work is refreshing: modern and young, yet they bring an enormous high quality and lightness to the table.

Julien & Quentin don't divide themselves classically in the production process as you would expect from a duo. They treat the projects intuitively and are both equally involved.
Google, Dior, Puma, Citroen, KLM, Mc Donald’s are just some of the brands they already worked for.

Director - Ed McCulloch

With an art director’s sense of visual style and a photographer’s eye for nuanced composition, Ed’s work includes films that mingle visual storytelling, natural performances and often lush locations and dramatic cinematography. Spots for brands like Lincoln Motor Company, Tim Horton’s, Nike, The History Channel and Panasonic all reflect his multifaceted career influences.
A graduate of Miami Ad School, Ed started his career as an agency art director. Within a year, however, he left the agency to pursue advertising photography full time, becoming a sought after shooter of print and online campaigns for a range of brands and agencies before moving into film.
